How to Make Chamomile-Infused Oil for Skincare

Chamomile-infused oil is easy to make and can be used in skincare for its soothing properties. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

Ingredients:

Dried chamomile flowers (ensure they are completely dry to avoid mold).

Carrier oil (e.g., olive oil, sweet almond oil, or jojoba oil).

Equipment:

• A clean, dry glass jar with a lid.

• A strainer or cheesecloth.

• A dark glass bottle for storage.

Instructions:

1. Fill the Jar:

• Place dried chamomile flowers in the jar, filling it about halfway.

2. Add the Oil:

• Pour your carrier oil over the chamomile flowers, ensuring they are fully submerged. Leave a small gap at the top for expansion.

3. Infusion Methods:

Slow (Cold) Infusion:

• Close the jar tightly and store it in a warm, sunny spot for 4–6 weeks. Shake the jar gently every few days to help with infusion.

Quick (Heat) Infusion:

• Place the jar in a pot of warm water (double boiler setup) and heat it gently for 2–4 hours. Ensure the oil doesn’t overheat (keep it around 100°F/37°C).

4. Strain the Oil:

• Once infused, strain the oil through a cheesecloth or fine strainer into a clean container, squeezing out all the oil from the chamomile.

5. Store the Oil:

• Pour the strained oil into a dark glass bottle to protect it from light and preserve its potency. Label it with the date and ingredients.

Shelf Life:

• Store in a cool, dark place. The oil should last about 6–12 months, depending on the carrier oil’s shelf life.

This chamomile-infused oil is perfect for soothing sensitive skin, making creams, or as a massage oil!
